Here are a few inexpensive ways you can start saving money and helping the environment:
- Upgrade light bulbs around the house to flourescent-type bulbs.
- Check for hot or cold areas around windows and doors. If you feel a draft or an inconsistent change in temperature, you might need to have you windows and doors checked for proper sealing. A draft guard at the bottom of doors also may help.
- Reducing general energy consumption. A very simple way to save energy is to turn lights off in unoccupied rooms or lowering your use of hot water.
- Use Nature! During the summer, night can be very pleasant. Rather than running the air conditioning throughout the night, open the windows. In the wintertime, south-facing windows can let a lot of sunlight in the house. Open the blinds during daylight hours to let the sun warm your house.
Carroll Electric Cooperative also offers its members energy audits. Energy audits can give you a detailed report about energy usage and efficiency. To learn more, click here.
